Dear friends and prospective retreatants,
As some of you are aware, we are about to begin a major building project. We will be closed to guests from 1 August, 2019, for approximately 2 years. During this time, we offer some suggestions for your retreat:
The All Saints Sisters of the Poor are located nearby, between Iffley and Cowley Roads; they take guests who are able to cook for themselves. Contact: firstname.lastname@example.org
The Community of St. Clare at Freeland, a short drive/bus ride from Oxford. Contact: email@example.com
The Community of St. Mary the Virgin in Wantage, also not far from Oxford. Contact: firstname.lastname@example.org
The Community of the Sisters of the Church are now in Gerrards Cross, near the A40 and within walking distance of a train station. Contact: email@example.com
In addition, the Retreat Association publishes an excellent, wide-ranging annual guide to retreat facilities throughout the UK. If you can’t find it at the newsagent, you can contact them on the web: www.retreats.org.uk, or via e-mail: firstname.lastname@example.org
If you are specifically looking for an Anglican Religious House and none of the above are available, we recommend you consult the Anglican Religious Life Yearbook, published by Canterbury Press, Norwich, and available in some church bookstores or the religious section of some bookstores (soon to be online only)
We apologize to those for whom our unavailability causes inconvenience, and we hope that you may find some of the above information helpful in locating new places for your retreat. We thank everyone for your understanding and patience as we create a new convent that will better suit the needs of the Sisters, and new facilities for those coming for retreat.
When I have some information about when we may re-open for guests, I will post it here. During the building work we will be living away from the convent; while I will monitor the Guest Sister inbox periodically, it will not be considered an active method for contacting us.
Thank you for your support and prayer during this time of change,
In gratefulness and blessing,
Helen SLG, Guest Sister
